BABA tablecloth

The BABA tablecloth is made of a scaled-up pattern in three different types of linen assembled by hand in Beirut using patchwork technique. The edges are frayed by hand.

Each item is unique thanks to the handmade nature of the work–slight variations in size, colour and shape may occur. The whole width of the fabric is utilised therefore the appearance of every product may vary slightly.

The BABA pattern uses the first two letters of the Arabic alphabet, Alef and Ba' - making up the word Baba, father in Arabic. It reflects on the role of words when the nature of their use changes, but also of letters as form rather than function.
