PONT cushion

The PONT motif cushion cover is made of Calico and is printed by hand in Beirut using hand carved woodblocks and embroidered using the Aghabani technique. The cushion cover has embroidery on the front and a zipper on the back.

Each item is unique thanks to the handmade nature of the work–slight variations in size, colour and shape may occur. The whole width of the fabric is utilised therefore the appearance of every product may vary slightly.

Traditionally, men would print the patterns onto the textile and women would embroider them at home. After washing the fabrics, the ink from the printing would fade. The PONT design is a testimony of the collaborative efforts between the two teams, hence the name “pont” meaning bridge in French.  

Originally from around Damascus, Aghabani is synonymous with festivity and lives in the collective memory of people in the region.
